In 2009, two Dutch native Education Specialists took the initiative to set up the Peruvian Association 'El Manguaré' with the objective of working for poor and disadvantaged children in the slums of Iquitos, the isolated jungle city of the Amazon River in Peru, South America. Care of disadvantaged children and the fight against illiteracy are important components of the work of the Peruvian Foundation.
El Manguaré will help break through this vicious cycle of child neglect by providing access to the following programs in the poorest areas of Iquitos, Peru:
- ‘Day Care and Education’ for neglected children of working- , young- and single-mothers, in cooperation with their mothers (Participation Project)
- ‘Back-to-School’ for children from 6 to 14 years'
- ‘Quality of Education’ to improve the schools of poor neighborhoods.
We intensively cooperate with the municipality, schools, teachers and parents. This way we improve the quality of our programs and aim to sustainably transfer knowledge to and learn from local people and organizations. After a few years we aim to have the programs run independently from El Manguaré so we can move on to other areas...
El Manguaré heeft haar school moeten sluiten maar helpt haar buurtbewoners zoveel mogelijk om door deze maanden heen te komen. Behalve het bouwen van bruggen deelt El Manguaré voedselpakketten uit en worden er onder de vrienden en buren van de mederwerkers van El Manguaré kledingstukken, speelgoed en matrassen (voor degenen die op de harde, vochtige vloer van de klaslokalen van San Lucas slapen) opgehaald. Maar er is zoveel nood en de pot raakt op. Help ons ajb helpen!
